what is the best way to troll annoying Chinese scammers these days?

Probably the same way you'd troll any scammer ...

If they're posting spam in a forum, report the post.

If you're in-game, get to know the ingame functions which are provided for the purpose of reporting inappropriate behavior. For example, I believe in Everquest, if you do a /report, it captures the last 20 lines of text in your chat window, but there's a special syntax to it.

If you never learned in advance, the ability to report someone won't be there when you need it and the offending text will scroll away before you have a chance to capture it.

Organize other players to report by developing a hot button you can click on as a primer for /shouting some text.

e.g. "/shou _____ is a gold farmer, end his spam with me. Use the /report function now and let's shut him up."

Most game clients let you press shift and press up, doing so will cycle through previous commands. Edit the previous by atting 't' to '/shout' so that the game client can recognize it, and add in the name of the spammer.

This helps educate other gamers on handling spam or other inappropriate activity. If enough reports come in at the same time, GMs will usually respond VERY fast. Sometimes, they're kinda waiting to see how many reports come in against someone. That helps them determine how seriously someone is breaking the rules. So getting other players involved almost always helps while also stepping up the severity of any punishment.

Even regular spam can be addressed through a hot button. I used to have a an anti-spam button I would hit once in a while, and it has a message like, "/shout Hey, you don't have to repeat yourself every ten seconds, anyone coming into this zone is here for a good five minutes. Slow it down a little bit so I can buy from the other traders. I definitely will not buy from YOU, spammer! Let's /report this guy if he does not stop."

By leveraging other players (very simple to do), you control the community gaming experience. Call stuff out when you see it.
