You ask any type of trainer or professional that is in the fitness industry and they will ALL tell you the same thing -- A regular cardio regiment paired with a weight-lifting regiment will help to accerlate fat loss.

Any which way you look at it, you ALWAYS want to lift before you do Cardio.

Give you an idea of my regiment:

    Sunday: Chest
    Monday: Back
    Tuesday: Off
    Wedsenday: Plyometrics
    Thursday: Arms + Shoulders
    Friday: Off
    Saturday: Plyometrics

On each day that I am lifting (Sun/Mon/Thurs), I am doing stairs (my gym has a very nice set of them!). I personally think that treadmills and all of that computerized crap is useless. OMG LETS RUN IN PLACE! ><

This regiment got me from 184 lbs with 17% bodyfat to 192 lbs with 9-10% bodyfat. I still use it to date. Each week, on my lift days, I am doing something entirely different. People will tell you that you need to do the same set of exercise week in and week out for at least a month to measure your progress. I say rubbish. One week I will be lifting very close to my 1MR (about 90%) and the next week I am using my TRX straps and 2 medicine balls and doing chest press stabilization with my hands on the balls (sounds bad I know...) and then my feet hooked into the TRX straps.

You really need to find what works for you. I am quite energetic in the gym and it really takes an act of God to slow me down

Let me know if you need any clarification on anything I said. It is really early, so I cannot guarantee that anything I said was nothing more than a ramble!

I disagree, treadmills are just as effective as running around in laps, you're just in a controlled environment... with the help of them I've improved my running endurance from 30 minutes (with about 80lbs on my back) to 55.

I look at things for practicality. There is a huge joint and muscle difference for me running on dirt/sand versus a treadmill. (I should have probably specified that that is what I meant by cardio -- even running on concrete or asphalt is whole difference beast) Tons of research shows that more muscles are activated on dirt/sand because you need to work harder to stabilize. I have seen more people have greater success with decreased minute times, decreased 100m dash times, etc, by running on dirt/sand.

    Just my observations and research

This is a lot like my same reg.
except i have to drive somewere and i run on a track that is on the military base.
after all my work outs i sit in the sauna and or hot tub after.
Oh, and i do them on diffrent days.
i dont really do it to loose weight (i personally belive i should gain weight >< but controlled weight) but more for the cardio/health part of it.

This is the first time ill have ever done any form of controlled excersise as i've never really played sport or gymmed. Basically used to rely on riding to and from school to keep myself in shape

Any chance of a a briefe example of what you mean by the following? Not really clear on what each excersise comprises of :S

It would make more sense that running in dirt/sand is more physically intense than on a treadmill.

Besides, medically speaking... treadmills are better for people who have been out of shape because of the deck being cushioned thus it's easier on your joints. (Over weight people put a lot of stress on their skeleton(quoted from a Doctor))
