Re: How to avoid paypal scam?
1. I always have the buyer send me an e-mail from their Paypal e-mail to verify ownership. If the Paypal is hacked, most hackers have not been able to hack the e-mail account as well. This has worked for me every time and I have never had an issues with any of my account sales.
2. This is part of selling intangible goods. What I do is, after they send you an e-mail verifying ownership of the Paypal account, you send them an invoice to their Paypal e-mail and state in the Subject/Body of the invoice that they are purchasing an "intangible good" and "by paying this invoice, they understand that they are paying for an intangible good." Again, it has worked me.
These are merely suggestions that have worked for me.
Hope that helps.

Re: How to avoid paypal scam?
Everything KH said and on top of that I found that people sending via gift is pretty safe as well. The only measures it doesn't cover is if the payment via gift is sent with a credit card, as calling up the company and having them charge back the amount is easy to do.
I think the best way is to make sure the person you are dealing with is reputable and to make sure even if they have rep to go search the scammers section of whatever forums you are using and to see if anything new has popped up there, as well as verifying they are the actual person by having them PM you and to make sure the AIM name is spelled correctly to avoid imposters.
